NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
Nicolas Del Vecchio, who earned All-America recognition this winter, has been elected captain of the 2020-21 Yale men's fencing team.
Del Vecchio, a rising junior, was Yale's top finisher (eighth) in the sabre at the Northeast Regionals and also tied for 10
th at the Ivy League Championship, which earned him a spot in the NCAA Championship.
Del Vecchio's team goals for the upcoming season are earning a higher finish at the Ivy Championships and building on Yale's national ranking.
"I believe the path to achieve these goals is found in intense practices, and a heightened emphasis on our team's mental togetherness," he said. "My long team goals are to turn Yale Fencing into a top team in the nation and a team capable of winning NCAA championships."
At Yale, Del Vecchio is a political science major, supplemented by his study of Arabic and fluency in Spanish. While most of his time outside class is dedicated to fencing, Del Vecchio also works on various musical projects, including broadcasting at Yale Radio, playing the drums and producing for a band, and working as a drum repair technician at a local music center in his hometown in Maryland.
