Boshnak to Represent Jordan at Olympics

AMMAN -- Aliya Boshnak (Amman, Jordan) of the Yale women's track and field team has been chosen to compete for Jordan in the Tokyo Olympics. Competition begins July 30, with Boshnak set to join an elite group of Yale women who have run in the Olympics. Kate Grace '11 placed eighth in the 800m at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and Kate O'Neill '03 finished 21st in the 10,000m at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

In her first two seasons at Yale, Boshnak emerged as one of the team's top sprinters. Her time of 56.42 in the 400m indoors ranked fourth all-time at Yale, and her time of 25.32 in the 200m indoors ranks 10th all-time at Yale. Both marks were set in 2020 during her sophomore season. She also has been a part of some of the best relay teams in school history, including the record-breaking 4x400m relay team that posted a time of 3:42.75 in 2019. Boshnak also ran a leg of the distance medley relay team that posted the seventh-best time in school history, 11:32.47, in 2020.

Boshnak competed in a pair of events -- the 400m and the distance medley relay -- at the 2020 Ivy League Heps Indoor Championships, helping the Bulldogs to a second-place finish in the DMR. She finished 12th in the 400m at the 2020 IC4A/ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, running a time of 56.42. Outdoors, Boshnak competed in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays at the 2019 Ivy League Heps Championships.

Boshnak is the Jordanian national record holder in the 100m, 200m and 400m. She was a World Junior Championship semi-finalist in the 400m and has been on the Jordanian National Team.

Boshnak is one of 14 athletes competing for Jordan, the most the country has ever sent to the Olympics.

A graduate of The International Academy, Boshnak is in Jonathan Edwards College at Yale.
