Lightweights Compete at Head of the Charles

BOSTON -- Sunday's lightweight racing at the Head of the Charles is always a treat for the spectators along the banks of the river, which on this Sunday at least, was calm with flat waters for all. And so it was again in 2022, in both the lightweight eight and the lightweight four, held about 45 minutes apart in mid-day racing.

In a tight pack of only 10 seconds between the top four finishers, Yale's lightweight eight finished a solid third, just eight seconds off the leader Harvard, two back of Princeton, and two seconds ahead of Navy.

In the lightweight four, three Canadian schools dominated the top spots, taking first, second, and fourth. Penn was first among the Americans, with Yale fifth.

"It's always a delight to make the quick trip to Boston, race hard, and get what we get. I'm proud of how my guys raced today, we had a blast racing it up again," said Commodore and 6-seat John McDonald.
