NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale gymnastics team once again swept the competition on Sunday, winning all events and the all-around for the second straight meet. The Bulldogs (193.625) beat the rest of the teams at the Tonry Invitational by at least four points each: SCSU was second (189.400), Bridgeport was third (187.450) and Springfield was fourth (182.625). On a day where the team honored former coaches Barbara and Don Tonry, the Bulldogs recorded the second-highest bars total in history with a 49.050 -- just .025 shy of their highest score.
Raegan Walker, Sherry Wang, Kendal Toy and
Lindsay Chia won their respective events.
Sarah Wilson (38.450) won the all-around while Chia (38.025) placed third. Captain
Seina Cho also officially competed for the first time.

The team started the meet on vault (48.500), where the Bulldogs had a strong rotation with all members executing clean landings. Walker won her second vault title of the season after performing a clean Yurchenko 1.5. Chia followed close behind with a 9.750 after she had a small hop on her Yurchenko full.
Oren Aviad (9.700) also followed with a strong Yurchenko 1.5 and a stuck landing.

The Bulldogs continue to outdo themselves on the bars as they beat their second-highest score from the win vs. SCSU last week. Yale scored a whopping 49.050 after all gymnasts scored above a 9.600. Toy and Wang tied for first after two exceptional routines. Toy showed depth with her Jaeger and perfect handstand transition from high to low bar. Toy also stuck her dismount. Wang executed the same skills and performed a difficult full-twisting double back dismount, the most difficult dismount of the meet. Wilson (9.825) and Walker (9.800) also both scored above a 9.800.
Â
The beam (47.500) challenged the Bulldogs with three falls, but they persisted through the rotation. Walker (9.825) performed a routine with virtually no bobbles and only a small hop in dismount. Toy performed difficult jumps and leaps like her sheep jump and switch ring leap with strong confidence. Toy concluded her routine with a stuck dismount to score a 9.825.
Â
The Bulldogs had a strong performance on floor, where four gymnasts scored above a 9.7. Chia (9.775) once again bagged a victory after a near-flawless floor routine. She executed all her passes with clean landings. Toy stuck two out of her three landings to also win the floor title (9.775). Wang (9.700) performed an incredibly difficult full-twisting double back pass, the most difficult pass in the competition, but had a low landing on her double tuck.
Â
Following the meet the teams watched a video tribute as part of the ceremonies honoring Barbara and Don Tonry. The meet had been known as the Don Tonry Invitational since 2015. Barbara Tonry, who passed away last summer, dedicated her life to Yale, the women's gymnastics program and its student-athletes for nearly 50 years. To honor her along with her husband, the annual meet has been renamed the Barbara and Don Tonry Invitational.
The Bulldogs will compete at Temple next weekend.
