NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale gymnastics team had its best performance of the season at the right time, as the Bulldogs' score of 195.050 Sunday afternoon at Lee Amphitheater earned Yale the title of Ivy Classic Champions. Second-place Penn (194.125) finished less than a point behind the Bulldogs. Brown (192.250) was third and Cornell (191.625) was fourth. This is Yale's 17th Ivy title.
Yale's highest score of the day, 49.100, came on beam and was .100 away from the school record. The Bulldogs had the top three scores of the event, led by
Raegan Walker's 9.900.
Lindsay Chia and
Kendal Toy tied for second at 9.875. Walker's score was just shy of the Yale record, 9.925, set by
Jacey Baldovino '21 in 2018.
Yale had scores of at least 48.000 in every other event, led by a 48.675 on the vault. Chia placed first with a 9.825, while
Sherry Wang took third with a 9.775. Chia was less than a point away from the school record set by
Tara Feld '13 in 2013 (9.900).
The Bulldogs scored 48.675 on bars. Walker had Yale's best score, tying for third with a 9.875 -- just .050 away from the school record, held by two people.
Yale had the best floor score of the meet at 48.650. Chia (9.875) and Wang (9.825) finished one-two. Chia's score was .075 away from the Yale record, held by three people.
Chia won the all-around competition with a score of 39.150.
Sunday's score was Yale's highest since scoring a 195.100 to win the Ivy Classic on Feb. 24, 2019. The Bulldogs are now neck-and-neck with Penn atop the Gymnastics East Conference rankings in terms of average score, with the Quakers at 194.163 and Yale at 193.163.
Yale competes in a quad meet at Maryland next Sunday.
