Brandau, Tevlin and Shay to Represent USA at World Games

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Yale men's lacrosse program is well-represented on the Team USA roster for the World Games, which start this week at UAB's PNC Field in Birmingham, Ala.  Rising senior attackman Matt Brandau and midfielder Brian Tevlin '22 are on the U.S. roster, and Andy Shay is the head coach.

Brandau and Tevlin are two of 12 players on the U.S. roster. Lacrosse at the World Games is played using the Sixes format, a discipline that was formally announced in May 2021 by World Lacrosse and would be the version of the sport played in future Olympics competition.

Sixes is a fast-paced version of lacrosse played on a smaller field (70 x 36 meters), with fewer players (six versus six), a condensed game length (four eight-minute quarters) and a 30-second shot clock.

Brandau, who ranked second in the nation in points per game (99 points in 17 games) and was a candidate for the Tewaaraton Award, earned multiple All-America honors and was a unanimous first team All-Ivy League selection this past season. He also was named first team All-ECAC.

Tevlin, Yale's 2022 team captain, was an honorable mention Inside Lacrosse All-American and was named first team All-Ivy League. He ranked among the Bulldogs' top four in ground balls (39, third), caused turnovers (12, fourth) and assists (13, fourth).

Shay, the winningest men's lacrosse coach in Yale history, led the Bulldogs to the 2018 NCAA Lacrosse Championship and was named USILA Division I Coach of the Year for his efforts. He has directed Yale to 11 straight Ivy League Tournament appearances, five Ivy Tournament titles, four regular-season Ivy League Championships and eight NCAA appearances.
