WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Yale gymnastics team posted its third-best score of the season Friday night in a quad meet hosted by George Washington, finishing with a 194.050 to place third. This was the second straight meet in which the Bulldogs have surpassed the 194.000 mark. GW won the meet with a 195.875, while UNC was second with a 194.075. Temple (193.975) was fourth. Yale scored 48.275 or better in each event with no major mistakes throughout the meet.
On vault (48.275) the Bulldogs were led by
Gigi Sabatini's 9.775. Sabatini topped her score of 9.725 from last meet. She has consistently been the highest scorer on the team on vault this season; Sabatini has the most difficult vault on the team, a Yurchenko full twist.
On bars (48.375)
Raegan Walker paced the Bulldogs with a 9.850. The uneven bars is one of Walker's best events. She performed her trademark perfect handstands and punctuated her routine with a strong double layout.
On beam (48.475) Walker earned the win with a 9.875, the highest score in the meet. She once again tied the third highest score in Yale history on the event. Walker had no visible bobbles in her routine.Â
Riley Meeks was fifth with a 9.725 and
Emma Mangiacapre tied for sixth (9.700).
On floor (48.925) Sabatini had Yale's best score, a 9.825. She tied for sixth in the competition. She was the team's floor anchor. Her routine was highlighted by her powerful double pike.
Yale returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 26 at the Ivy Classic.
