WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The Yale gymnastics team put on a great performance Saturday night in the Gymnastics East Conference Championships at Kaplan Arena, placing second overall.
Raegan Walker continued her winning streak on the uneven bars with a 9.875 while
Sarah Wilson placed first in the all around with a 38.950. The Bulldogs' total of 194.200 trailed only first-place Penn (194.925).
Yale had a strong showing on the vault with no major mistakes (48.400). The best performance came from
Sherry Wang, who performed a Yurchenko full on vault to place sixth overall with a 9.725. Walker placed closely behind with a 9.700. She performed a Yurchenko 1.5.
Walker continues to make her mark in Yale bars history, finishing first with a 9.875. Walker had perfect handstands and a remarkable Jaeger, catching with straight arms. Wilson also had a great bars performance to tie for third overall with a 9.825. She had remarkable handstands as well and a great Tkatchev. The team as whole had no major mistakes and put up a 48.875.
Yale had a rocky balance beam set (48.100) but had some standouts.
Riley Meeks scored the highest for the Bulldogs with a 9.800 to tie for fifth overall. She had virtually no bobbles and a solid Gainer dismount.
Hana Strause followed with a 9.725.
Yale made minimal mistakes on the floor exercise with a 48.825, one of the Bulldogs' highest scores of the season. Strause had the highest score; she performed her signature 2.5 layout to punch front beautifully. She tied for fifth overall with a 9.850. Wilson followed with a 9.825. She has been making floor one of her best events with her strong double pike pass.
Following the meet the GEC announced its annual award winners, with Walker earning Gymnast of the Year and Performance of the Year.
Even under high pressure, Yale performed well to place second. The Bulldogs will now prepare for the USAG Collegiate Nationals.
