NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale gymnastics made its seniors proud with a win against Bridgeport and Rhode Island Sunday at Lee Amphitheater. The Bulldogs also won all event titles and the all-around title.
Raegan Walker was a stand out, winning the vault and the balance beam. She also tied the second-highest score on balance beam in Yale history.
Sarah Wilson and
Hana Strause won the uneven bars and floor exercise respectively.
Gigi Sabatini continues to make her mark in the all-around, besting six other competitors for the title.
Yale started their day on on the vault, where the Bulldogs continue to perform strong sets. Walker and Sabatini went 1-2 on the vault. Walker performed a powerful Yurchenko 1 1/2 layout, the most difficult vault on the team. Sabatini performed an extremely clean Yurchenko full layout with only a small hop. With no major mistakes, the team ended with a 48.400.
The uneven bars was an especially tough event for the Bulldogs, which is uncharacteristic because the event is often the best event for the team. Despite the challenges, Wilson was still able to perform a strong event to win the event title for the Bulldogs. Wilson performs a high flying straddled Tkatchev and a smooth high to low bar transition in her routine, which was scored 9.850. Walker followed with her high flying straddled Jaeger and perfect handstands to score a 9.750. The team totaled a 47.375.
The team made a strong comeback in the balance beam, which was the Bulldogs' best event of the day (48.675). Walker had an incredible set with virtually no bobbles. She stuck her dismount, a Gainer full. Both Strause and Sabatini followed closely. Strause stuck her back handspring layout step out series while Sabatini stuck her 1.5 twisting layout dismount.
Yale finished strong on the floor, where the Bulldogs scored a 48.575. Strause continues to be a stand out in floor as she has been throughout the season. She once again won the floor exercise title. She performed her signature 2.5 twisting layout to punch front extremely well. Wilson followed closely and is performing her double pike better and better throughout the season.
