Bulldogs Travel to Albany for Final Non-League Game

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's lacrosse team takes a break from Ivy League play to travel to UAlbany for the final non-conference game of the regular season. The Bulldogs and Great Danes face off at 7 p.m. at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
* The Bulldogs have won three straight games and are coming off a 16-10 home win over Brown last Saturday at Reese Stadium. During the streak, Yale has averaged 18 goals per game, while yielding just 11.67.
 
* The Bulldogs are No. 17 in this week's USILA Coaches Poll and ranked No. 19 by Inside Lacrosse.
 
* The Bulldogs lead the Ivy League and are eighth in the nation in scoring offense (15.0).
 
*  Yale is in the top 15 nationally in two other categories - opponent clear percentage (6th, 0.803) and assists per game (13th, 8.10).
 
* Individually, Chris Lyons is third nationally in goals per game (4.10). He scored seven goals and added one assist in last week's win over Brown and was named the Ivy League and Lacrosse Network's Player of the Week. In addition, he was selected to the USILA Team of the Week. In his two seasons, Lyons, a sophomore, has scored 77 goals and added 17 assists for 94 points, leaving him six shy of 100 for his career.
 
*  Matt Brandau, who scored two goals and added two assists in last Saturday's win, continues to climb in the Yale record book. His 238 career points are second all-time at Yale. Ben Reeves (2015-18) holds the school record with 316 career points. Brandau's 144 career goals are third in school history. He is 18 shy of second place Jon Reese (1987-90), who scored 162. Brandau's 94 careers assists are third all-time. Jackson Morrill (2017-20) is second with 107 assists.
 
*  Brandau has scored at least one point in all 50 games he has played at Yale, the third longest active streak in the nation. He has scored at least one goal in all but one game.
 
*  Sophomore Leo Johnson recorded the 100th point of his young career in last Saturday's win over Brown. It came when he assisted on a Brandau goal late in the third quarter. Johnson has had at least one point in all 27 games he has played at Yale and has scored at least one goal in all but two games.
 
* Goalie Jared Paquette is seventh in the nation in saves per game (14.0). In two seasons, Paquette has made 366 saves, which is eighth all-time at Yale.
 
* Jack Stuzin leads the Ivy League with 18 caused turnovers.
 
* Last year at Reese Stadium, Leo Johnson scored four goals and added five assists as the Bulldogs edged the Great Danes 17-13. Yale's last visit to Albany came in 2019 and resulted in a 10-5 victory as three different Bulldogs scored two goals. The game was played in a rain storm.
 
SCOUTING UALBANY
 
The Great Danes (4-6, 3-2 Ivy) have won two of their last three games, including a 13-7 victory over NJIT last Saturday. Jack Pucci scored four goals and added one assist. Yale is the second Ivy League opponent for UAlbany, which fell to Cornell 12-10 back on Feb. 18. Pucci leads the team in scoring with 20 goals and 10 assists, while Jake Piseno is the America East leader and ranks second nationally in caused turnovers per game. Scott Marr is in his 23rd season as head coach of the Great Danes. He is a six-time America East Coach of the Year.
