NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Team 150 will begin the 2023 season as the favorite in the race for the Ivy League title. The league has released its official preseason poll, and the Bulldogs were picked to finish first, receiving 13 first-place votes and 122 points. There were 16 voters (two media representatives that cover each school).
Princeton, which received one first-place vote and had 103 points, is projected to finish second followed by Penn (90), Harvard (one first-place vote, 84), Columbia (one first-place vote, 62), Dartmouth (54), Cornell (37) and Brown (24).
Yale, the defending Ivy champion, returns a strong nucleus from last year's team that posted an 8-2 overall record and a 6-1 Ivy mark.
Sixteen Bulldogs earned preseason all-conference honors from college football analyst Phil Steele, including offensive lineman
Kiran Amegadjie, who was named the preseason offensive player of the year. Amegadjie also has earned
preseason All-America recognition, while quarterback
Nolan Grooms was named to the preseason
Walter Payton Award Watch List.
The Bulldogs, who will play seven games at Yale Bowl, Class of 1954 Field this fall, open the season at home against Holy Cross on Sept. 16 at noon. The Ivy opener is slated for Sept. 23 against Cornell, also a noon kickoff.
