Bulldogs Score Season-High in Home Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale gymnastics team placed second against the University of Pennsylvania in their first home meet of the season. Yale narrowly lost against Penn (195.550) with a total score of 194.675, but the team once again broke through the 49 ceiling with a 49.025. Sarah Wilson posted the top score on beam. The Bulldogs scored their highest point total since 2022.

The team started on vault (48.750) with Gigi Sabatini tying for second. Sabatini performed a Yurchenko full twist with a tiny hop. She scored a 9.800. Sherry Wang placed fifth with a 9.775. She had a tiny leg separation and a small step in her landing.

The Bulldogs followed on bars with a 48.525. Wang also had a strong performance on bars, where she posted a 9.825. She had perfect handstands and difficult elements, including a straddled jaeger and a high-to-low bar handstand transition.

Yale had a few struggles on beam, but had a strong performance overall (48.375). Wilson was a strong standout in the event with a 9.875. Wilson had a steady performance and punctuated her routine with a stuck landing on her full twisting punch layout.

The team concluded with floor, their strongest performance (49.025). Hana Strause, Wang, Chloe Dejoy, and Wilson all tied for second with a 9.825. Strause had powerful, steady landings with a strong double pike opening pass. Wang's routine was highlighted by a strong double back tuck. Dejoy's most difficult pass was a 1.5 twist with a layout punch front. Wilson ended the meet strong with a stuck double pike pass.

The Bulldogs will compete against Brown University next Sunday.
