NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale gymnastics head coach Andy Leis announced a new team member, signing seven-year-old Camryn Summa-Barbour through Team IMPACT.

Camryn, a Leukemia survivor, was officially introduced at a signing day press conference on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at John J. Lee Amphitheater. She will participate in many activities with the Yale gymnastics team including meets, practices and other team events.

Team IMPACT, a national non-profit organization, has developed a unique multiyear program that matches children facing serious illness and disability with college athletic teams across the country. Based on a clinical model, Team IMPACT guides a symbiotic relationship between teams and children focused on socialization, empowerment, and resilience.

"Team IMPACT is excited to see Camryn join the Bulldogs," said Emma Simches, Regional Director of Programs, Northeast at Team IMPACT. "We are proud to work with Yale University, their athletic department, and coaching staff to create lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes between student-athletes and their Team IMPACT teammates."

Yale has worked with Team IMPACT for the last 10 years, matching 17 children across multiple Bulldogs teams.

"We are thrilled to welcome Camryn as the newest member of the Yale Gymnastics team. She brings all the qualities and characteristics we are looking for in a great teammate and we can't wait to start this journey with her and her family. Congrats to Camryn and go Bulldogs," said Leis.

In addition to Coach Leis, team captain Claire Qu is excited about Camryn as a new teammate and what she brings to the table.

"YGT is so excited to have Cam has our new teammate. She fits right into our family with her goofiness, her love for dancing, and her high energy. We are so grateful that Team IMPACT has given Cam the opportunity to be on our team, and for granting YGT the ability to be a part of Cam's journey. We are looking forward to an incredible two years together," said Qu.
