Gymnastics Competes at All-American Challenge

UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- The Yale gymnastics team stood out on floor in the the All-American Challenge at Mohegan Sun. The Bulldogs competed against Southern Connecticut State University, University of New Haven, and Long Island University. Yale totaled a score of 191.250. The Bulldogs posted the sixth highest floor event score in program history.

Southern Connecticut State University placed first at the event, followed by New Hampshire, Long Island, and Yale. 

Yale started on bars and accumulated a score of 47.200. Sarah Wilson led the scoring with a 9.800, and Sherry Wang followed with a 9.7750. Wilson's routine highlight was a sky high straddled Tkatchev. Wang punctuated her routine with an almost stuck full twisting double back dismount.

The Elis followed on beam, where Wilson placed third with a 9.8250. Wilson had few bobbles and showcased a front tuck, cat leap connection. Hana Strause followed with 9.7750. Strause stuck her back handspring lay out step out to a layout step out.

The Bulldogs notably won floor with a score of 49.150. Ella Tashjian and Wang both placed second with a 9.8750. Wang stuck her difficult double back pass while Tashjian nailed her double pike pass.

Yale had a final team score of 47.550 on vault. Tashjian had the highest score amongst the Bulldogs with a 9.700. Wilson followed with a 9.6750. Tashjian performed a Yurchenko layout full twist while Wilson performed a Yurckenko tuck full twist.

Yale will compete in the Ivy League Championship on Saturday, Feb. 24 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
