NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale sailing teams had a successful weekend with wins in Boston and Providence.
The coed team took first place at the Silver Grey Marchiando Trophy at MIT this weekend. With an impressive record of 14 wins and four losses, the Yale team easily beat second place Roger Williams. Skippers
Teddy Nicolosi,
Jack Egan,
Stephan Baker, and
Morgan Pinckney and crews
Nathan Sih, Jessi Avila-Sha,
Sarah Moeder,
Elle Sykes, and
Ashley Highland rotated throughout the weekend to lead the team to victory.
This regatta differed from usual events in that it split the competitors into two separate events; Yale competed against six other teams but did not get an opportunity to face off against division rivals such as Harvard and Brown. They will look to do so next weekend at the New England Team Race Championship, hosted in Providence by Brown.
The women's team won the Dellenbaugh Trophy at Brown University this weekend — their third consecutive team race win this spring. Sailing won the 11-team round robin and two final four rotations. The Elis went an impressive 14-2 to handily beat the second place team Stanford. Skippers
Carmen Cowles,
Emma Cowles, and
Mia Nicolosi and crews
Catherine Cheung,
Ximena Escobar, and
Carmen Berg sailed the whole regatta.
Next weekend, the women's team will have the home water advantage as they compete in the Yale Women's Team Race at the Yale Corinthian Yacht Club.
