NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale sailing teams competed at a duo of regattas this weekend in the midst of their spring season.
The women's team headed to Providence for the Dellenbaugh Women's Team Race Trophy at Brown. On Saturday, the wind came from the north and shifted toward the northwest as racing went on. On Sunday, the breeze ranged from 5–10 knots with puffs over 20 knots, shifting between the south-southwest and increasing throughout the day. The squad placed third with an 11-5 record. Skippers Carly Kieding, Dorothy Mendelblatt, and Elle Sykes sailed with crews Sarah Moeder, Julia Miller, Carmen Berg, and Clara Diaz Suarez.
The coed team had a challenging weekend at the Lynn Marchiando Trophy Team Race, hosted by MIT. On Saturday, it was a windy and shifty day on the Charles River, with the breeze ranging from 5–12 knots and gusts over 20 knots. Sunday brought wind from the west that shifted to the south as the day went on. The wind ranged from 7–10 knots and similarly brought large puffs of over 20 knots. The team finished ninth with a 7-11 record. Skippers Alexander Adams, Mathias Reimer, and Morgan Pinckney raced with crews Ella Benedetto, Ashley Highland, and Annabel Woodworth.
The coed squads have a busy schedule next week, competing in two regattas. One team will compete at the Fowle Trophy – the Open New England Team Race Championship at Brown, and another at the Owen Trophy at Boston University.
