NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Yale women's sailing team won the Women's Southern New England Team Race, hosted by Connecticut College over the weekend.
Both the women's team and the coed team raced out of Connecticut College. The breeze was strong on Saturday, initially coming from the west and then switching between the north and west throughout the day. Puffs reached as high as 20 knots, and the lulls were around 6 knots. On Sunday, the wind was lighter, shifting between the south and the east.
At the Women's Southern New England Team Race, the racing was close over the weekend, ending with a sail-off between Brown and Yale to decide who would clinch first place. Yale beat Brown with a 1-2-6 combination, finishing with an 8-4 record overall. Skippers Carly Kieding, Dorothy Mendelblatt, and Elle Sykes sailed with crews Clara Diaz Suarez, Sarah Moeder, Maren Bradley, and Julia Miller.
The coed team also raced out of Connecticut College, competing in the Southern New England Team Race. One full round-robin was completed with all teams, followed by a second round among the top six teams. Skippers Alexander Adams, Mathias Reimer, and Morgan Pinckney raced with crews Carmen Berg, Ella Benedetto, Margaret Ratzan, and Annabel Woodworth. The team placed fifth, finishing with a 6-6 record.
Next week, the Bulldogs will compete in the Friis Team Race at the Coast Guard Academy and the Duplin Women's Team Race at Tufts.
