Bulldogs Close Out Regular Season Competition

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's track and field team finished up regular-season competition Saturday by giving it one last shot to improve upon their PRs and qualify for NCAA First Round competition. The Yale Elite Last Chance Meet was also the final home meet of the season.
  • Full Results from the Yale Elite Last Chance Meet can be found here.
  • The day kicked off with the discus throw, where captain Matt Appel took home the win in a distance of 54.91 meters. Nolan Recker placed third, just outside his PR with a distance of 52.64 meters.
  • In the hammer throw Jake Sun just missed out on a PR, throwing 58.03 meters -- just one centimeter behind his mark from last week.
  • Brian Di Bassinga fought hard to win the triple jump in a new PR of 15.40 meters, a mark that should be good enough to take him to NCAA First Round competition.
  • In the 400 meters Antonio Bravo returned after his 800 meter PR earlier in the week to test his speed. Bravo ran a solid race to come home in second. This was supported by his collegiate debut in the javelin in which he secured another second place.
  • The 800 meters was a highly competitive field. Thomas Cirrito and Amaré Fields both fought hard with Cirrito sneaking under the 1:50 barrier once again to just miss out on the win.
  • In the 3k steeplechase Jack Sendek navigated the event well to run a time of 9:20 and place third.
  • Brian Gamble and Ronan Luff were both chasing down fast times in the 1500 meters. Gamble closed quickly to run a new PR of 3:45.20 and place second.
  • In the 5000 meters, Leo Brewer was chasing down the NCAA First Round East qualifying mark and fought well to place fifth with a time of 14:11. Teammate Daegan Cutter closed out his season with a 14:38.
  • Elsewhere, Sean Kay competed at the IC4A Championships in Virginia but was unsuccessful in his bid to earn a spot in the NCAA First Round.

Up next:
  • The Bulldogs who are top 48 in their event in the region will return to training as they prepare for the NCAA East First Round. This takes place May 22-24 in Lexington, Ky. It will give the Bulldogs a chance to fight for a place in the NCAA Championships.
