Bergloff, Subbiah, Thakur, Wright and Yang and Named CSC Academic All-District

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Five members of the Yale women's cross country and track and field teams were named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators (CSC) for 2023-24: senior Bella Bergloff (Holliston, Mass.), senior Bharathi Subbiah (Weston, Mass.), senior Mira Thakur (Houston, Texas), senior Sophie Wright (Cambridge, Mass.) and senior Eileen Yang (Beavercreek, Ohio) The organization announced the awards on Tuesday.
 
 
Bergloff, an environmental studies major, captained the Bulldogs and was one of the team's top throwers. She placed eighth with a PR of 13.57m and 15th in the weight throw at the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track and Field Championships. That was her second time competing at that event. She competed at the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Championships once, in 2023, placing seventh in the shot put, ninth in the discus throw and 12th in the hammer throw. She is on Yale's top 10 lists outdoors in each of those events. She is also on the Yale top 10 list indoors in the shot put and weight throw. Off the track, she was a member of the leadership team and social media manager for Athletes in Action.
 
Bergloff is a graduate of Holliston High School.
 
 
Subbiah, a global affairs major, was one of the Bulldogs' top triple jumpers and earned the team's Most Improved Athlete Award this past year. She is on Yale's top 10 lists indoors and outdoors in the triple jump, and this past season she placed 13th in that event at the Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track and Field Championships. She competed in that meet three times in her career, and competed at the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field Championships twice, highlighted by an eighth-place finish in the triple jump this past May. Off the track, Subbiah has been an executive board member for Students Demand Actions (a student-led gun violence prevention program), a Title IX advisory board member, a Student-Athlete Mentor and has served in multiple roles on Yale's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She wa a student researcher for the Yale Law School Lowenstein Project, working with Victim Advocates International to review victim filings to International Criminal Court. 
 
Subbiah is a graduate of Weston High School.
 
 
This is the second CSC Academic All-District honor of Thakur's career; she was also selected last year. She was an Academic All-Ivy League honoree for the 2023-24 indoor track and field season. An ethics, politics and economics major, she has been a part of multiple relay teams that rank on Yale's all-time top 10 indoors and outdoors. She is also on Yale's top 10 list indoors individually in the 200m and the 400m. She has competed at three Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field Championships in her career – in the 200m three times and the 4x100m relay once. She has competed at three Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track and Field Championships in her career – in the 200m three times, the 4x400m relay once, the 4x440y relay once and the 400m once. Off the track, she earned a Yale Effective Altruism Fellowship in August 2020. She has been part of Yale's You Can Too program, providing academic support, college preparation and education for BIPOC middle and high school students. She also has been a member of Yale Undergraduate Diversified Investments.
 
Thakur is a graduate of St. John's School.
 
 
Wright, a history of science, medicine and public health major, was one of the Bulldogs' top triple jumpers. She was an Academic All-Ivy League honoree for the 2024 outdoor track and field season. She is on Yale's top 10 list indoors and outdoors in the triple jump. That includes a personal-best mark at the Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track and Field Championships this past February, earning an 11th-place finish. She also finished 11th at the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field Championships this year. That was her second time competing at that meet. Off the track, Wright has been a part of the Period Club at Yale and the Yale Buddhist Sangha. 
 
Wright is a graduate of Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.
 
 
Yang, an economics major, earned the team's Outstanding Jumper Award this past season after finishing her career second on the school's all-time lists indoors and outdoors in the pole vault. She established a PR of 4.00m at the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track and Field Championships, where she finished fourth. She also finished fourth at the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She competed at the Ivy outdoor championships three times and the Ivy indoor championships twice. Off the track, Yang served in multiple roles for the Yale Student Investment Group and for Yale Undergraduate Diversified Investments. She also was a member of Scholars of Finance and worked for Yale as a Herb Scarf Research Assistant.
 
Yang is a graduate of Beavercreek High School.
