About the Regatta
- This year marks the 157th regatta in these two programs' storied history.
- The first race was held in 1852 on the waters of Lake Winnipesaukee in Center Harbor, N.H.
- "The Race" began when Yale issued a challenge to Harvard to "test the superiority of the oarsmen of the two colleges." Following the first race in 1852, there was a layoff period until 1855 when Yale reignited the challenge between both institutions.
- The first YH regatta was only two miles long, which eventually transitioned to a four-mile race.
