Recker Breaks Weight Throw School Record, Bulldogs Place First at YDC

Nolan Recker (shown here) broke his own school record in the weight throw.
HANOVER, N.H. – The Yale men's track and field team began the 2025 portion of the indoor season at the annual Yale-Dartmouth- Columbia tri-meet Saturday at Leverone Field House. The Bulldogs placed joint first with Columbia, scoring 59 points. It was a successful start to the new year, with the Bulldogs setting numerous PRs and a school record by Nolan Recker in the weight throw.

The meet:
  • Full results can be found here.
  • Kicking the meet off in the high jump was sophomore Jamaal Darlington, who jumped 1.90 meters. This mark was just outside a PR but sets him up well for the season. Senior Elliot Wessel placed third in the pole vault with a solid opener.
  • Junior Nolan Recker had a memorable day in the weight throw. In his third attempt he threw 20.80 meters to break his own school record. Elsewhere in the weight throw Jake Sun placed fourth with a new PR of 18.47 meters. It was a very successful day for the throws group, which bodes well for the future.
  • On the track the action began with the mile. First year Lucas Cohen placed second with a time of 4:15. He had a strong last lap to keep a hold of second place. Sophomore Daegan Cutter also scored points, finishing fourth in 4:20.
  • The Bulldogs scored plenty of points in the 400 meters. Junior Andrew Farr ran 49.12 to place second with a very respectable time on the flat track. Simon Jupp and Aaron Miller placed third and fourth overall respectively. Senior Austin Montini placed first in the 500 meters, showcasing his raw speed. He will be dangerous once he moves up the distances.
  • It was a closely contested 800 meters with junior Owen Karas placing fourth in a tactical race. The 1000 meters was an exciting race with first year Max Bishop closing down the leader on the last lap to move up and place second in 2:27. Senior Winslow Atkeson was just behind, also in 2:27.
  • The Bulldogs swept the top three spots in the 200 meters. Captain Jacob Kao placed first in 21.91. Junior Isiah Udofia was second and sophomore Lucas Mylon third in what was a great day for the Bulldogs.
  • In the 3000 meters, Karas returned to the track and placed first. Kenan Pala also doubled up and placed second in 8:23. Senior Jack Sendek secured valuable points by placing fourth.
  • The relays are always a highlight of the meet. In the 4x800 meters the Bulldogs placed second with a time of 7:46. The team consisting of Montini, Braden King, Matthew Schutzbank and Atkeson fought well to secure their position.
  • In the final event of the day the Bulldogs needed to beat Columbia to tie the meet. The team of Farr, Kao, Mylon and Simon Jupp ran a great opener of 3:16 to place second and beat the Lions to knot the team scores. It was good practice for the Ivy League Championships, where relays are a crucial aspect.

Next up:
  • The Bulldogs are back in action next week at the River Hawk Invitational on Jan. 24. This meet takes place at the TRACK at new balance. The back-to-back meets will give the Bulldogs a chance to build upon Saturday's result and chase some PRs.
