NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Ava Poinsett of the Yale volleyball team is adding to her award inventory following a breakout rookie season for the Bulldogs. She has been named the North Region Freshman of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
In addition to earning Freshman of the Year honors, Poinsett was also selected to the AVCA All-North Region First Team.
The outside hitter from San Diego, Calif., was previously named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and earned unanimous First Team All-Ivy honors. During the regular season, she was a six-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Poinsett finished Ivy play tied for first in service aces per set (0.44), second in kills per set (3.55), and third in points per set (4.12).
Across the Ivy semifinal and championship matches, Poinsett totaled 39 kills, 36 digs, nine service aces, and four solo blocks, earning a spot on the Ivy League All-Tournament Team.
