DERBY, Conn. – The Yale heavyweight crew team opened its 2024 season with victories in four of five races against Dartmouth on a cold, rainy, and windy day on the Housatonic River. Despite choppy conditions, the Bulldogs delivered a strong showing across the board.
Race Results
- The day began with a dominant performance from Yale's fifth varsity boat, setting the tone early with a time of 6:35.7. Dartmouth followed at 6:44.1.
- In the second race, the Bulldogs' fourth varsity crew surged to a 10-second victory, finishing in 6:26.1 compared to Dartmouth's 6:36.0.
- The first varsity race, which featured the Olympic Axe, went to Dartmouth for the first time in series history. The Big Green edged out the Bulldogs with a time of 6:10.3 to Yale's 6:12.4.
- Yale's second varsity boat rebounded with a commanding win, crossing in 6:12.6—seven seconds ahead of Dartmouth's 6:19.4.
- In the final race of the day, Yale's third varsity crew posted the fastest time of the meet at 6:06.9, defeating Dartmouth (6:11.8) and capping a successful day on the water.

Yale heads west to compete in the California Invitational in Redwood City, Calif., on Saturday, April 12.
