EUGENE, Ore. – After a long season and
many qualifying rounds, the finals of the 800-meter run were held
on Friday at the NCAA Championships at the University of Oregon.
Junior Kate Grace competed as one of the top eight runners in the
country in a tough event, which should qualify her for All-American
honors.
Grace finished in a time of 2:05.92. This is remarkably
consistent with her time on Wednesday of 2:05.32. Her splits at
every 200 meters in the finals were 28.90, 30.81, 32.34 and 33.88.
She finished seventh. The champion was Phoebe Wright of Tennessee,
who won in 2:01.40.
This was Grace's third time at NCAA Championships outdoors, but
her first time in the finals; Grace has one more season to look
forward to coming back to national competition, and she will surely
be preparing to do so as she takes her rest over the summer.
