Box Score

Tigers Score Three First Half Goals

PRINCETON, N.J. – Princeton's high-powered offense was on display in the first half on Saturday against Yale. The Tigers, who far and away lead the Ivy League in goals, scored three times in the opening 45 minutes en route to a 3-0 victory over the Bulldogs at Roberts Stadium.

Princeton (10-5-2, 3-3-1 Ivy) caught a break on the opening goal after Yale was whistled for a questionable foul in the box. John Kendall converted the penalty kick at 20:20.

Less than three minutes later, the Tigers stuck again when Thomas Sanner headed home Nico Hurtado's corner kick. It was Sanner's league-leading 13th goal of the season.

Andrew Doar capped the scoring with 41 seconds left in the first half.

"We played a very good Princeton team that seemed to have everything fall their way today, as well," said Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "We were unfortunate to have a phantom PK call against us which resulted in the first goal and left our players in shock. We didn't respond well to this and then soon after we let the best player in the league have an open header off a corner kick.

"Our guys seemed to be in a daze during the entire first half but they turned things around at halftime, and I thought we had several moments of momentum in our favor during the second half and a few good scoring chances that we didn't execute.  I thought we deserved to get at least one goal back but it unfortunately didn't fall our way."

The Bulldogs end the season with a 1-13-2 overall record and a 0-4-2 Ivy mark.

The game was the final one for Yale's six seniors -  Keith BondLukas CzingerTyler Detorie,Pablo EspinolaPhilip Piper and Avery Schwartz.

"I want to thank our seniors for their hard work and positive attitude this season," Stannard said. "This team has faced a lot of adversity, but they always fought hard and battled until the end of each game. I'm very sad for them because they deserved more out of this season than what the record shows, but I can assure you they helped move this program forward in the right direction and I'm thankful for the time they have put into the program."
