Bulldogs Are Off On Monday And Will Face Duke On Tuesday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In a rematch of Saturday's 22-3 Yale baseball victory over Davidson, it was the Wildcats who struck back on Sunday, getting to sophomore pitcher Chasen Ford early and often.

Davidson used a seven-run, eight-hit second inning to gain an early lead, on its way to a 23-2 win over the Bulldogs (1-2). In all three of Yale's games this season, the winning team has scored 22 runs or more.

Ford (Lake Forest, Calif.) pitched two innings for the Elis in his season debut, allowing 10 earned runs on 11 hits while facing 19 batters.

On the other side, Davidson pitcher Nick Neitzel allowed only one earned run and three hits in five innings, picking up his first win of the season.

Seven different Eli batters recorded a hit on the day, including doubles by senior Eric Hsieh (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and sophomore Harrison White (Laguna Niguel, Calif.).

Junior Nate Adams (St. Louis, Mo.) went 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk and a run scored, while also hitting a sacrifice fly in the third for his second RBI of the young season.

Sophomore Richard Slenker (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) recorded his fourth RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly to center in eighth, plating Adams for the Bulldogs' second run.

Davidson scored in the first inning with an RBI single by Lee Miller, before putting together eight hits and scoring seven runs in the second inning off Ford.

Adams' sac fly in the third narrowed the Wildcats' lead, but the Elis left two runners stranded in an inning where they had two runners on base with no outs.

Freshman righty Drew Scott (Henrico, Va.) relieved Ford in the third inning, seeing action in his second game of the season. Scott would scatter three runs and two hits over three innings of work, striking out three.

Five other Bulldog pitchers would see time on the mound, including freshman Mason Kukowski (Katy, Texas), who threw a perfect seventh inning with a strikeout and caused a 6-4-3 groundball double-play.

The Wildcats would add five runs in both the sixth and eighth innings, capping off their 23-run and 24-hit performance.

Third baseman Ben Arkin led the offensive charge for Davidson, going 4-for-5 with five RBI and four runs scored on the day. Miller chipped with a 3-for-4, four RBI effort at the dish.

The Bulldogs continue their spring trip when they return to action on Tuesday to play Duke (11-3) at Jack Coombs Field in Durham, N.C. The Blue Devils are currently receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches' Poll rankings.
