Box Score Sliepka Drives in Run for Bulldogs
Arlington, Virginia - Sophomore Mikey Sliepka had an RBI double, but the Yale baseball team lost in the finale of their six-game spring trip on Wednesday.
A three-run first inning proved to be too much for Yale, as George Washington handed the Bulldogs a 6-1 loss Wednesday at Tucker Field.
To make matters worse, it appears Yale will be without senior Nate Adams indefinitely. Adams was off to a remarkable start and was selected to the Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll earlier this week, but injured his hamstring against the Colonials.
"I have always said the measure of a player is how he reacts to adversity," Yale head coach John Stuper said. "Well we have a struggled all spring, and today our best player went down. Since his game is so predicated on speed, we can't rush him back. Tough break for him as he was having a career year to this point. Other guys are going to have to pick it up."
Yale (0-9-1) got its lone run in the eighth. Derek Brown doubled and then Sliepka followed with a double of his own to drive in Brown.
Alec Hoeschel also doubled, while Harrison White and Richard Slenker had the other two hits for the Bulldogs. The Yale lineup worked George Washington pitchers for six walks. The Bulldogs used six different pitchers on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs will return to New Haven and host Holy Cross for a doubleheader in their home opener on Saturday. The first game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Holy Cross holds a 73-49-2 lead in the series that dates back to 1895.
