Whiteman extends hitting streak

West Hartford - Simon Whiteman and Brent Lawson each had three hits, as Yale fell 15-8 to Hartford Wednesday at Fiondella Field.

Richard Slenker's sacrifice fly plated Whiteman and then Benny Wanger's two-run home run to right field gave the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead in the third. But the Hawks responded with nine runs in the bottom of the frame and Yale could not recover.

Whiteman went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and extended his hitting streak to eight games. Lawson also went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles.

Harrison White and Wanger each chipped in with two hits. Tim DeGraw drove in a run with a triple in the eighth and added a sacrifice fly in the ninth.

The Bulldogs (4-15-1) finished with 14 hits, their second-highest total of the season.

Yale used six different pitchers. Mason Kukowski tossed one hitless inning in relief.

The Bulldogs will open up Ivy League play on Saturday with a double header at Columbia. A doubleheader at Penn will follow on Sunday.
