Box Score 2 Yale Splits with Harvard
West Haven – Right-hander Scott Politz continued what has been an impressive freshman campaign.
Politz only got better as the game went on in a 3-2 victory over rival Harvard Saturday at historic Yale Field.
The freshman allowed two runs on three hits and struck out seven over seven innings to improve to 4-3. He struck out seven of the last 11 batters he faced, including a flawless seventh where he fanned the final three batters on nine pitches.
"Just a freshman and to lead us in the first game like that was impressive," head coach John Stuper said. "He's a tough, competitive kid."
Yale (12-20-1, 7-3 Ivy) fell 6-3 to Harvard in the second game. The Bulldogs remain in first place in the Ivy League's Red Role Division.
In the first game, Brent Lawson and Harrison White recorded back-to-back RBI singles, as Yale jumped on the board with two runs in the first. The Crimson responded with a pair of runs in the second to tie the game.
Simon Whiteman singled in the fifth and later scored on an error for the go-ahead run in the fifth. Tim DeGraw and Andrew Herrera also added hits for the Bulldogs.
Yale led 3-2, before Harvard put up four runs in the eighth to pull off the comeback victory in the second game. Right-hander Chasen Ford allowed three runs on five hits over 7 1/3 in the no-decision for the Bulldogs.
Tom O'Neill highlighted the offense in Game Two with a two-run home run. He finished, going 2-for-4. Nate Adams, Whiteman, Richard Slenker and Herrera also chipped in with hits.
Yale will host Harvard again on Sunday to close out the four-game set. The first game is scheduled for noon at Yale Field.
