Box Score O'Neill Drives in Four Runs
West Haven - Tim DeGraw tallied three hits and Tom O'Neill drove in four runs as Yale coasted to a 15-2 victory over Wesleyan Wednesday at historic Yale Field.
The Bulldogs jumped all over the Cardinals early, as a seven-run first frame sparked the win. It was O'Neill that highlighted the scoring outburst with a three-run double.
Yale (13-22-1), which led by as many as 14 runs, put together another big inning in the fifth increase its lead. O'Neill had an RBI single, Richard Slenker drove in a pair of runs with a single and captain Chris Moates also knocked in a run with a single in the frame.
Harrison White added two hits including a two-run home run in the sixth. Slenker and Moates drove in two runs, and Nate Adams chipped in with two hits.
Starting pitcher Benny Wanger looked dominant in his four scoreless innings of work. He allowed just three hits and struck out six. Tyler Duncan earned his first victory of the season, tossing two scoreless innings in relief.
Yale and Wesleyan, a Division III program, rekindled their rivalry last season to commemorate the 150th year for both programs. The teams met for the first time in 1865, which marked the first game for the schools.
Wednesday was the final non-conference game for the Bulldogs. They close out the regular season with eight Ivy League contests. Yale and Dartmouth, who swept Cornell in a doubleheader on Wednesday, are tied for lead in the Ivy's Red Rolfe Division with a 7-5 conference mark.
The Big Green will host Yale in a critical four-game set this weekend. Doubleheaders are scheduled to start at noon on Saturday and Sunday.
