Dey Homers in Loss to Campbell

Box Score

Griffin Dey homered and Simon Whiteman doubled home two for Yale in a 9-5 season-opening loss at Campbell on Friday evening in Buies Creek, N.C.

Team captain Tom Ruddy went 2-for-3 for Yale, which fell behind 4-0 in the first inning.

The Bulldogs got on the board in the second when Alex Boos and Alex Stiegler drew back to back one-out walks.  Boos scored on a wild pitch.

After Campbell (1-4) added a run in the third, Griffin Dey smashed a solo homer to left center.  Dey led the Bulldogs with 10 homers last season.

Cole Shelton, who started his first collegiate game as Yale's designated hitter, led off the ninth and was hit by a pitch to start a rally.  Fellow first year Teddy Hague walked to move Shelton to second.

Hague and Shelton advanced on a wild pitch, and Tim DeGraw walked. Whiteman doubled to drive home Hague and Shelton. Benny Wanger grounded out to score DeGraw.

Scott Politz started and took the loss for Yale. Drew Scott and Mason Kukowski pitched in relief.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow to face Miami (Ohio) for a doubleheader in Buies Creek, N.C.
