Box Score WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- Cole Shelton and Cal Christofori both had two hits for the Bulldogs in a 5-3 loss to Hartford on Tuesday.
Hartford's Ashton Bardzell tripled home the go-ahead run off of Mason Kukowski in the seventh inning and Drew Farkas pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. The Bulldogs (4-14) left two runners on in both the seventh and eighth as the Hawks held on for the victory.
First year hitters stood out today. Christofori singled home Teddy Hague in the second to tie the game at 1-1, and in the fifth Shelton led off with a triple and scored on a Harry Hegeman single.
Hegeman stole second, and advanced to third on a Simon Whiteman infield single. Griffin Dey scored Hegeman on an RBI ground out to tie the game at 3-3.
The Hawks (5-15) scored two runs in the seventh.
The Bulldogs used 10 pitchers today, and received scoreless-inning performances from Jackson Bandow, Bobby Cecere, Justin Ager, Tyler Sapsford and Alex Stiegler.
Today marked the first game played on the new artificial surface at Yale Field.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday to host Brown at 3 p.m.
