Box Score WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs postseason hopes will come down to tomorrow thanks to the weather and today's Columbia starting pitcher Harrisen Egly.
Columbia topped Yale, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon in game one of the best-of-three Ivy League Championship Series. Game two of today's scheduled doubleheader was postponed this afternoon due to rain and will be played tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
If necessary, game three will be played approximately 20 minutes after game two.
Ben Porter broke a scoreless tie in the seventh with a run-scoring triple just beyond the reach of a diving Brian Ronai in right field to score Jake Chernow -- the eventual game-winning run in a pitcher's duel. Chernow started the rally with a two-out single on an 0-and-2 count.
Scott Politz pitched into the eighth for Yale, and kept the Bulldogs in the game throughout against Egly, who tossed seven scoreless innings for the Lions and kept the Yale bats cold.
The Lions scored three insurance runs in the eighth.
Yale best scoring chance came in the fifth with a table-setting effort by two first-year student athletes. Cal Christofori led off with a walk and Teddy Hague reached on a bunt single. Egly got the next three batters to get through the inning.
Hague would single again in the seventh for his second hit of the day and represent the Bulldogs' last base runner of the game.
Benny Wanger and Alex Stiegler both had hits for the Bulldogs, who now must win the next two games to keep their season going. Eric Brodkowitz is scheduled to get the start in game two for Yale.
