Dey Drives in Three in Loss to Central Florida

Box Score

Griffin Dey had a hit and three RBI for the Bulldogs in a 7-5 loss at Central Florida on Tuesday evening.

After two close losses to No. 5 Florida last weekend, Yale (3-8) struck first with two runs in its first at bat tonight against the Knights.  Simon Whiteman led off with a single to get things started and stole second.

Mason LaPlante worked out a walk on a full count and on the pitch Whiteman stole third.  Dey followed with a sac fly to score Whiteman.

Jake Gehri, fresh off a two-homer performance against Florida, doubled to left center to score LaPlante and gave the Bulldogs an early 2-0 lead.

Rohan Handa, making his first collegiate start, allowed four runs in the bottom of the first and settled down to toss three-straight scoreless innings before working into the fifth.

The Bulldogs kept chipping away.  LaPlante started a rally in the third with a leadoff walk, stole second, and eventually reached third and scored on two separate wild pitches to make it 4-3.

UCF (11-5) added a run in both the fifth and sixth.  The Bulldogs didn't quit and Dey capped another rally in the seventh with a two-run single to make it 6-5.

Dey now leads the team with nine RBI in the team's first 11 games.

The Bulldogs and Knights will complete their two-game series with a game tomorrow night beginning at 6 p.m.
