Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Griffin Dey hit a grand slam and Yale's offense exploded for an 11-2 home-opening victory over Quinnipiac on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 6-10 overall.
Dey, now 8 for his last 16 at the plate, was a double short of hitting for the cycle in a 4-for-5 day with six RBIs. He cleared the bases with a grand slam in the third to give the Bulldogs an 11-0 lead.
First-year Ben Gibbs pitched five shutout innings, struck out five and earned his first collegiate victory. Sam Boies tossed two scoreless innings and Jackson Bandow closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.
Harry Hegeman went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Dai Dai Otaka and Pierce Blohowiak also both scored two runs.
The Bulldogs open the Ivy League season this weekend with a three-game series at Brown beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday. The series wraps up with a single game on Sunday.
