Stiegler Strikes Out 10 in Loss to Columbia

Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Alex Stiegler struck out 10 over seven innings for the Bulldogs in a 4-1 loss to Columbia on Sunday afternoon.

It was the second time this season Stiegler fanned at least 10 in a start.  He's gone at least seven innings in all four of his Ivy League starts and has a 1.72 ERA against conference opponents in 31 and 1/3 innings.

The Bulldogs left nine on base today and couldn't produce the big hit at the right time.  With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 5-7 in league play and Columbia improved to 9-3 in the conference.

After Columbia scored two in the first, Yale took a run back in the bottom half.  Jake Gehri lifted a sac fly to score Simon Whiteman, who singled to lead off the inning.

Whiteman stole second and advanced to third on a Griffin Dey single.  Gehri ranks second on team with 26 RBI.

Up next in league play, the Bulldogs travel to Penn next weekend.  The Quakers will enter the series at 8-4 in the Ivy League.

Yale's next game is on Tuesday with a match-up at Quinnipiac for a 3 p.m. start.  The Bulldogs defeated the Bobcats 11-2 back on March 20.
