NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The last time Dartmouth visited Reese Stadium in 2019, the Bulldogs scored just 58 seconds into the game to grab an early lead on their way to a 3-1 victory. Yale would certainly be happy to follow a similar blueprint on Saturday when the Big Green are back at Reese. The Bulldogs have scored the first goal in each of their three victories this season. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. following the Yale-Dartmouth women's game, which is a 4 p.m. start.
The doubleheader is Yale Soccer's Noche Latina celebration. There will be free t-shirts for the first 100 fans at each game as well as a food truck and Latin music.
Here are more notes on the important Ivy League contest:
* A young Yale team showed the maturity to play well when trailing in Tuesday's 2-2 draw at Hartford. Twice the Bulldogs found themselves down by a goal, and twice they rallied. The tying goal was SportsCenter top-10 worthy. It came when
Sigfus Arnason sent a free kick into the box where
Eric Lagos was able to head it into the back of the net while falling to the ground.
* Yale opened Ivy League play with a scoreless tie vs. Harvard last Saturday at Reese. The Bulldogs had the better of the play but were unable to cash in on their scoring opportunities.
* Lagos and
Paolo Carroll share the team lead with four goals. Two of Carroll's goals have been game winners.
* Goalkeeper
Elian Haddock is third in the Ivy League with 34 saves.
* The Bulldogs are unbeaten in their last six Ivy League games at Reese Stadium, dating back to the 2018 season. Yale has outscored its Ivy opponents 12-3 during the stretch.
* The Bulldogs are unbeaten in their last three games vs. Dartmouth. In addition to the 2019 3-1 win, Yale played ties with the Big Green in 2018 and 2017.
SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
The Big Green (1-7) earned its first win of the season on Tuesday night, topping Albany 1-0. Dartmouth has played a very challenging schedule, which include games with then No. 3 Washington and No. 1 Georgetown in addition to top New England programs UMass and UConn. Ben Jenkins scored the game-winning goal against Albany. He leads the team with five points (2 goals, 1 assist). Dartmouth dropped a double overtime heartbreaker to Princeton in its Ivy opener. Only two of the Big Green's eight games have been played at home.
