Bulldogs Picked First in Ivy League Preseason Poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale baseball team has won or shared two of the last three Ivy League titles, and the 2022 edition of the Eli Nine looks ready to contend for one. The Bulldogs were ranked No. 1 in the preseason Ivy poll, released by the league on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs look forward to resuming their recent run of success, which includes Ivy League titles in 2017 and 2018 and receiving votes in Collegiate Baseball's 2021 national pre-season poll. Yale led the nation in significant defensive categories in each of the team's last two full seasons -- double plays per game in 2019 (1.32) and fielding percentage in 2018 (.985, tying the NCAA record). Yale returns 16 players from the 2020 season.

The Bulldogs' schedule for 2022 includes 21 Ivy League games. Yale's season opener is set for Feb. 25 at Auburn. The home opener at George H.W. Bush '48 Field is Mar. 15 vs. Marist and Ivy League play begins Mar. 26 at Princeton.

The Ivy League Baseball Playoff Series, in which the top two teams in the regular season standings compete for the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Regionals, takes place May 21 and May 22 at the site of the No. 1 team. NCAA Regionals take place June 3-6, Super Regionals take place June 10-13 and the College World Series takes place June 16-27.
