NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs will get a chance this weekend to make up ground in the standings with a three-game series at first-place Columbia. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m. and a single game on Sunday at noon.
Yale won two of three against Brown last weekend and improved to 7-5 in Ivy League play. Columbia is 10-2 and second-place Dartmouth is 8-4.
Seven different Bulldogs scored a run and had at least one hit in an 8-7 victory at Quinnipiac on Wednesday. With the win, Yale has won three of four entering the weekend. Â
Jimmy Chatfield hit his team-leading eighth homer of the year in the win on Wednesday and has reached base safely in all 28 games this season.Â
Ben Metzner is riding a 23-game streak for reaching base. Chatfield also leads the team in most offensive categories, including average (.340), hits (33), total bases (60), RBI (30) and walks (24). Â
Chatfield, Metzner and
Mike Walsh on Monday earned a spot on the Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll for their efforts last week. Â
Jake Gehri enters the weekend in Ivy League play tied for the conference lead in RBI. He has 16 runs batted in over 12 conference games.
Mason LaPlante enters the weekend with a seven-game hit streak -- the longest current streak on the team. Â
On the mound, Walsh enters the weekend leading the Ivy League in strikeouts during conference games with 37. He is also second in opponent's batting average (.214). Â
Grant Kipp is fourth in strikeouts against Ivy League competition with 27. Walsh and Kipp are tied for first in innings pitched in Ivy League play -- both have 26 and 1/3 innings this year. Â
The Bulldogs continue to lead the league in fielding percentage with a .974 percentage -- five percentage points ahead of the next team.Â
