NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's tennis team posted a statement victory Saturday at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 62 in the ITA national poll, edged No. 48 Princeton 4-3. It was the first Ivy League loss for the Tigers since the 2017 season.
At No. 1 singles,
Chelsea Kung earned a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Princeton's Daria Frayman, the nation's top-ranked player.
Yale also got a dramatic, three-set victory from
Jessie Gong at No. 4 singles. Gong won a third set tiebreaker over Brianna Shvets. Gong had dropped the first set but rallied to win the second set 6-1.
Rhea Shrivastava was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 5 singles, and
Vivian Cheng won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
In doubles, Kung and Gong posted a 6-3 victory in the No. 1 position, but Princeton captured the other two matches to win the doubles point.
The Bulldogs are right back in action on Sunday, hosting Penn at noon at Cullman-Heyman.
