Wojick Joins Hamm’s Staff as Assistant Coach

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Chris Wojick, who worked alongside new Yale head coach Brian Hamm to lead Eastern Connecticut State to the NCAA Division III National Championship this past year, has joined Hamm's staff at Yale as an assistant coach. Hamm announced the hiring Monday.

"Chris Wojick is one of the bright pitching minds in college baseball," said Hamm. "He is an innovator in the areas of pitcher development, arm care, and pitch-calling, which combined with his ability to identify talent and inspire players has resulted in remarkable success of pitchers at the collegiate and professional levels. Chris embodies the passion, drive, and character that our players aspire toward, and I am excited for him to join our winning culture!"

Wojick served as associate head coach at Eastern this past season. He had been at ECSU as a pitching coach since 2018-19, returning to the program after seven seasons in a similar capacity at Wesleyan. He also was ECSU's men's golf coach.

"Coach Hamm and I have been together for four years and had a ton of success at ECSU," said Wojick.  "We work great together and I am really excited to join his staff at Yale.  I am looking forward to working with the pitching staff at Yale and continue to grow the amazing culture Coach Stuper developed."

Wojick's ECSU pitching staff led NCAA Division III in ERA this past season (2.91). The Warriors were fifth in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (7.75) and 10th in shutouts (six). They had the best WHIP in the nation (1.16) and were ninth in walks allowed per nine innings (2.69).

Under Wojick in 2021, ECSU was second in NCAA Division III in strikeouts per nine innings (11.4) and sixth in shutouts (seven). The Warriors were second in the Little East Conference in earned run average (3.24).

In Wojick's first season in 2019, the ECSU staff led the conference in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.08) and was second in strikeouts per nine innings (8.7).

At Wesleyan, Wojick helped the Cardinals to consecutive 30-win seasons (only the second and third 30-win campaigns in program history) that included NCAA Regional berths in 2014 and 2015. Wesleyan won a total of six games in those NCAA Regionals, four coming when they reached the championship round of the Moosic, Pa., Regional in 2014. His pitching staffs at Wesleyan compiled three of the top four team ERA marks in program history, including a record 2.70 in 2015.

During Wojick's tenure at Wesleyan, five players went on to sign professional baseball contracts.

As a player, Wojick transferred to ECSU in the spring of 2008 after spending three semesters at the Division I level. He helped ECSU to four NCAA Tournament berths, two Little East Conference regular season championships and one LEC Tournament championship. He appeared in at least 20 games in each of his first three seasons before moving into a role as a spot starter and reliever as a senior captain in 2011. As a freshman, the right-hander was named third team All-New England Region and second-team All-LEC with six saves and a staff-best 1.49 ERA in a team-high 20 appearances. The save total remains the second-highest in a season by a freshman in program history.

During Wojick's playing career, Eastern led the LEC in team ERA each season. He appeared in 74 games with a 13-7 record, 4.13 ERA and eight saves in 135.0 innings.

Wojick earned a B.S. in business administration from ECSU in 2011. He is a native of Uncasville, Conn., and is a graduate of Montville High School.
