Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – The Bulldogs scored five in the ninth and had the tying run at third before the final out in a 11-10 loss at the University of the Pacific on Tuesday evening.
Jake Williams homered, reached base five times and the Bulldogs finished with 12 hits. Yale refused to quit and batted around in the ninth before the final out was recorded.
Colton Shaw delivered a one-out, pinch-hit two-run single to make the game 11-9 in the ninth. Williams grounded out to score
Ben Metzner, who singled home a run earlier in the inning, to bring the Bulldogs within one.
The comeback in the ninth was the second time the Bulldogs rallied in the game. Yale scored two in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3.
Jeff Pierantoni dropped a sac bunt that led to
Jimmy Chatfield scoring a run. Later in the sixth,
Hayden Sobecki drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game.
Pacific went on to score three in the bottom of the sixth and never trailed the rest of the way.
Williams hit a solo homer in the third and went 3 for 3 in the game with three RBI. Metzner went 2 for 3 in the game and scored two runs.
Yale returns to action on Friday to begin a three-game series at McNeese State.
