Box Score WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Jimmy Chatfield homered for Yale in a 5-3 loss to Cornell on Friday at Bush '48 Field.
In the Ivy League opener for both teams, the Bulldogs got on the board first with Chatfield's blast in the fourth. Chatfield hit a full-count pitch over the left field wall to extend his on-base streak to 53 games and give Yale a 2-0 lead.
The Big Red (1-12) got one back in the fifth and Yale responded in the bottom half.
Jake Williams led off the fifth with a walk.
AJ Gaich sacrificed him to second and
Jeff Pierantoni singled home Williams to extend Yale's lead to 3-1.
Cornell put four on the board with a grand slam in the sixth and never trailed the rest of the game
Pierantoni had three hits and also scored a run in the game for Yale.
Davis Hanson,
Beck Milner and
Colton Shaw, today's starter for Yale, also had hits for the Bulldogs.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday to close out the series.
