The Bulldogs have won four of five entering this weekend's three-game home series against Columbia. The two teams open the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, and a single game on Sunday afternoon.
Here are some Bulldog notes heading into the weekend:
- Yale swept Brown last weekend to improve to 4-2 in Ivy League play.
- Colton Shaw was named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday after tossing eight scoreless innings in the victory at Brown last Friday. Shaw leads the Ivy League in strikeouts with 21 against conference opponents in 13.1 innings.
- Carson Swank went 2 for 3 with a homer in a 10-3 loss at Fairfield on Tuesday (Yale's most recent game).
- The Bulldogs rank second in the nation and lead the Ivy League in team fielding percentage (.986) for the entire season.
- AJ Gaich brings a six-game hit streak into the weekend. He had a team-best seven-game hit streak earlier this season.
- The Bulldogs have the second-best team ERA (4.58) in Ivy League games.
- Davis Hanson leads the Bulldogs with a .400 batting average (10 for 25) in Ivy League games.
- Jimmy Chatfield is tied for the Ivy League lead with 11 runs scored in conference games.
Scouting Columbia
The Lions defeated No. 19 UConn 19-14 on Tuesday. Last weekend, Columbia took two of three from Cornell. Griffin Palfrey leads the Lions with a .412 batting average for the season, while Andy Blake (.382), Hayden Schott (.370), Seth Dardar (.344) and Anton Lazits (.315) are all hitting over. 300.
