NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Five Yale baseball players have been named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators (CSC): sophomore right-handed pitcher
Mark Capell (Morganville, N.J.), senior right-handed pitcher
Quinn Cleary (Newton, Mass.), sophomore right-handed pitcher
Mick Kelley (San Francisco, Calif.), senior outfielder
Ben Metzner (New York, N.Y.) and junior infielder
Jeff Pierantoni (Sherman Oaks, Calif.). CSC announced the awards on Tuesday.
Capell, an economics major, stuck out 43 in 28.1 innings of work out of the bullpen. He earned a pair of saves. He is a graduate of Biotechnology High School.
Cleary, an American studies major, had 10 strikeouts in 13.2 innings of relief work spanning 14 games. He is a graduate of St. George's School.
Kelley, an economics major, struck out 17 in 24.0 innings of work out of the bullpen. He limited opposing batters to a .225 average. He is a graduate of University High School.
Metzner, a history major, appeared in 34 games and started 23. He tied for second on the team in doubles with seven and had a .327 on-base percentage. He is a graduate of Horace Mann School.
Pierantoni, a history major, started all 40 games. He finished third on the team in batting average (.278) while posting a .354 on-base percentage. He is a graduate of Notre Dame High School.
All five Bulldogs now advance to the Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced Wednesday, June 7 at noon.
