NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale Sailing team faced light winds this weekend, competing in three regattas and winning one event.
The women's team won the Yale Women's Interconference held at Yale. On Saturday, light winds came out of the south-west, and a similar forecast occurred on Sunday. Skipper Emma Cowles and crew Jessi Ávila-Shah won A division by 24 points, placing first in more than half of the races. Skipper Audrey Foley and crew Julia Miller placed third in B division with consistent strong finishes.
Two teams competed in Boston and were met with very light conditions. The coed team placed 7th at the Atlantic Coast Championship Final. Only seven races were able to be competed given the light conditions, with some races getting abandoned. Skipper Jack Egan and Elle Sykes placed 11th A division, and skipper Stephan Baker and crew Ashley Highland placed in 5th in B division.
On the Charles, the Bulldogs placed third at the Oberg Trophy. On Saturday, the wind was extremely light, bringing delays and only allowing three races to be completed. Sunday was a better day for racing, with more consistent wind coming out of the west, varying from 3-5 knots. Skipper Dorothy Mendelblatt and crews Ximena Escobar and Sarah Moeder placed 6th in A division, skipper Mathias Reimer and crew Annabel Woodworth placed 9th in B division, and skipper Alex Adams and crew Ariana Borut placed 4th in C division.
Next weekend the Bulldogs will compete in their last two double-handed regattas of the Fall season, the Schell and the Urn Trophies.
