NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale sailing teams competed in two events over the weekend, including the NEISA Open Team Race Championship, hosted by Brown.
At Brown, one coed squad raced in the NEISA Open Team Race Championship, also known as the Fowle Trophy. On Saturday, the wind came from the north and gradually shifted east throughout the day. The breeze held steady between 8 and 12 knots, with puffs reaching up to 20 knots. After completing one round robin, the Bulldogs narrowly missed the cut for the top eight teams advancing to the next round, concluding their regatta on Saturday. The team finished ninth with a 3-8 record.
Skippers Morgan Pinckney, Dorothy Mendelblatt, Carly Kieding, Alexander Adams, and Mathias Reimer competed alongside crews Annabel Woodworth, Julia Miller, Elle Sykes, and Ashley Highland.
Another coed group traveled to Boston University to compete in the Owen Trophy. Racing on the Charles River brought puffy and windy conditions on Saturday, with sustained winds between 14 and 16 knots and gusts climbing into the mid-20s. Sunday's conditions were much lighter, with winds barely strong enough to support racing.
In A division, skipper Patrick Wahlig sailed with crews Matilda Twigg and Puiyee Kong. In B division, skipper Walker Cox competed with crews Beatrice Formenton and Puiyee Kong. The Bulldogs placed 10th overall.
With just two weekends remaining before nationals, Yale will return to action at the NEISA Women's Team Race Championship (Legler Trophy) at Tufts University, as well as the Thompson Team Race, co-hosted by the United States Coast Guard Academy and Connecticut College.
