NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs competed at their conference championships, the Schell and the Urn trophies over the weekend. These regattas are the last two double-handed events of the fall, and this week the team will start team racing practice to prepare for the spring season.
The women's team competed at the Urn Trophy, finishing in third place, just one point out of second. The team faced puffy and strong breeze on Saturday from the northwest, completing 10 races on the first day. On Sunday, the wind was shifty and much lighter, coming out of the northwest during the first race and clocking to the west throughout the day. Skipper Emma Cowles and crew Julia Miller won A division, and skipper Carmen Cowles and crews Ariana Borut and Mary Madaus placed fourth in B division.
Competing at Yale, the coed team placed third at the Schell Trophy. On Saturday, the wind came from the north, coming off the land, which brought shifty conditions. On Sunday the wind was lighter and shiftier, moving from the northwest to the southwest throughout the day. After facing tricky conditions on Saturday, the Bulldogs climbed their way up the standings on Sunday, only putting up single-digit scores. Skipper Jack Egan and crews Ximena Escobar and Sarah Moeder placed second in A division, and Skipper Morgan Pinckney and crews Audrey Foley and Annabel Woodworth placed 5th in B division.
To wrap up the season, the Bulldogs will compete at the Single Handed Nationals on November 9-10 and Match Race Nationals the following weekend.
