Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Yale baseball team opened the 2024 campaign with a 13-6 loss to the University of North Florida on Friday evening in Jacksonville. Following a nearly three-hour weather delay, the Bulldogs played into early Saturday morning but were unable to weather the storm of the Osprey offense.

Davis Hanson led the Bulldogs with two hits, including a home run and first year Colin Sloan knocked in a pair of runs in his first collegiate game.

How it Happened

• Bottom 2^nd | The Ospreys got on the board with an RBI single by Matthew Clements.
• Bottom 3^rd | The hosts added to their lead on a solo shot by Cherokee Nichols. Clements added another two RBIs with his second single of the game. The Ospreys led 4-0 after three innings of play.
• Top 4^th | The Bulldogs earned their first runs of the game on Sloan's double to left center, marking his first collegiate hit and RBI. Hayden Sobecki knocked in Sloan to cut the North Florida lead to 4-3.
• Bottom 5^th | The Ospreys added another run on an RBI double.
• Top 6^th | Yale took advantage of defensive miscues by the Ospreys, tallying a run on a throwing error. The Bulldogs tied it at 5-5 as Alec Atkinson scored on a wild pitch.
• Bottom 6^th | North Florida regained the lead on a two-RBI double by Nichols. The Ospreys tacked on another pair of runs in the inning to lead 9-5 after six.
• Top 7^th | Hanson hit a solo shot for the Bulldogs' first home run of the season.
• Bottom 7^th | Nichols hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot to extend the lead for the hosts. Nichols finished with five RBIs
• Bottom 8^th | North Florida tacked on two more and would go on to win it 13-6.

Game Notes

• Sloan, Garrett Larsen, Chace Chaplin, and Chris DiPrima all made their collegiate debuts.
• DiPrima pitched a scoreless inning in the bottom of the eighth.
• Daniel Cohen started on the bump for the Bulldogs, pitching four innings and allowing five earned runs.
