CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- It was another successful weekend for the Yale Sailing teams, with the squads winning two major events. The women's team was victorious at the NEISA Team Race Championship hosted by Harvard. The win comes on the heels of the coed team's conference title last weekend. The coed squad returned to action and won the Thompson Trophy.
The women's team won the Legler Trophy at Harvard. Facing uncharacteristically windy conditions, skippers
Carmen Cowles,
Emma Cowles, and
Mia Nicolosi and crews
Carmen Berg,
Catherine Cheung,
Ximena Escobar, and
Megan Grimes competed against nine conference rivals including Dartmouth, Brown, and Harvard. The team's impressive 14-3 record throughout the weekend was enough to clinch first place before the final four was even completed. By winning the trophy, which served as the NEISA Team Race Championships, the Yale women become conference champions and secure an automatic qualification to team race nationals in two weeks. Next week, the Bulldogs will take on the NEISA Fleet Race Championship at Bowdoin.
The Coed group also had a successful weekend, winning the Thompson Trophy at the Coast Guard Academy. Going 17-2 throughout the weekend, the team consisted of skippers
Stephan Baker,
Jack Egan,
Morgan Pinckney, and
Teddy Nicolosi and crews
Jessi Avila-Shah,
Ashley Highland,
Sarah Moeder,
Nathan Sih, and
Elle Sykes. This regatta differed from the norm in that the fleet was split into two separate competitions; as such, Yale did not get to race against main rivals Harvard or Stanford. Nonetheless, the Bulldogs will look to carry this momentum with them through next weekend, when they sail their own NEISA fleet race championship at Brown University.
